Privacy Policy
At the same time that Doubledown Media is committed to bringing you information tailored to your individual needs, we recognize the importance of protecting the privacy of personally identifiable information collected about you, our customers and prospects. In adopting this customer privacy policy, our intent is to balance our legitimate business interests in collecting and using information with your reasonable expectations of privacy.
Doubledown Media does not collect personally identifying information about individuals, except when specifically and knowingly provided by such individuals.
Web servers serving Doubledown Media automatically collect information about which pages each user visits and the domain name of visitors. This is used for internal review, to tailor information to individual visitors and for traffic audits. We also provide this information (as well as information from third-party market researchers) about our users on an aggregated, anonymous basis to our advertisers. Any personally identifiable information provided by subscribers online as part of an advertiser promotion online (i.e. online coupons) may be provided directly to advertisers.
Doubledown Media may place a "cookie" on the browser of a Doubledown Media user's computer. Information gathered through the use of cookies is not related to any personally identifiable details. A cookie can be used to tell when your computer has contacted a Web site; we use the information for editorial purposes and for other purposes such as delivery of ads, so we can customize delivery of information without compromising privacy. For example, cookies are used to ensure that you don't see the same ad too many times in a single session. In some instances, advertisers will set cookies on our site. These cookies are not related to any personally identifiable information that we have collected but are for monitoring and tracking ad impressions.
Many browsers are set to accept cookies. You may prefer to set your browser to refuse cookies. It is possible, however, that some areas of the site will not function properly if you do so. This is especially likely when trying to order a product or play an online game.
A user's personally identifiable information (e.g., name, e-mail address) may be used by Doubledown Media for editorial purposes. For example, we may use information provided by you to us as part of an editorial online survey. If we run competitions or contests on the site, you may be required to provide information in order to participate such as your name, address, e-mail address, telephone number, fax number, credit card information, and information about your interests in and use of various products, programs, and services. The exact rules may vary in each case but the specific rules for any contest will state how that information may be used. We also may use personally identifiable information for marketing and promotional purposes. We may send you e-mails about Doubledown Media products, promotions, or services as well as on behalf of other companies.
In addition, if you choose to become a TraderDater member, at the time you register you will be asked for some general identifying information which will enable us to provide you with this individualized service. We gather contact information (like your email address) and demographic information (like your gender and age). We will only use this information in the course of providing our service to you. Should this entail sharing information with professional advisors or consultants, the sharing will be limited to demographic (non-identifying) information, for research purposes.
Once you have registered, you will be given the option of creating a personal ad. You will be asked for some personal, but non-identifying, information to complete your personal ad (e.g. your occupation, your favorite book, etc). This information will be viewable by other members, but it will not be associated on the website with your contact information. Your contact information is never available to other members; they can only contact you via your TraderDater member name, using the anonymous TraderDater messaging system.
If you choose to submit content for publication (e.g., a "letter to our editors"), we may publish your screen name and other information you have provided to us.
We may disclose personally identifiable information in response to legal process, for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena. We also may disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency's request, or where we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, violations of our terms of use, or as otherwise required by law. In addition, we may transfer information about you if we are acquired by or merged with another company.
Agents and contractors of Doubledown Media who have access to personally identifiable information are required to protect this information in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Policy by, for example, not using the information for any purpose other than to carry out the services they are performing for Doubledown Media. Although we take appropriate measures to safeguard against unauthorized disclosures of information, we cannot assure you that personally identifiable information that we collect will never be disclosed in a manner that is inconsistent with this Privacy Notice.
We will not use or transfer personally identifiable information provided to us in ways unrelated to the ones described above without also providing you with an opportunity to opt out of these unrelated uses.
Except as stated in this Privacy Policy or at the time of collection, user's personally identifiable information will not be transferred to a party outside Doubledown Media, its divisions, its vendors providing Internet hosting services or third party list managers unless stated at the time of collection. If you do not wish to receive any e-mail or to have us share such information with another party, you may "opt out" at any time by e-mailing us or contacting us by regular mail.
We do not control the privacy policies of our business partners, advertisers, sponsors or other sites to which we provide hyperlinks. Doubledown Media users should also be aware that, when you voluntarily disclose personal information in chat areas or bulletin boards, that information may be collected by others and may result in unsolicited messages from others.
Technology on the Internet is developing at a rapid pace, and we need to maintain our flexibility in the online arena. If we need to change our policy in the future, we will post these changes as soon as they go into effect.
